How long does a kitchen renovation take?

Though of course it depends on the size and type of kitchen remodel, an average kitchen takes between 4 to 12 weeks to remodel, not including the planning and design phase. DIY projects can take longer, because the homeowner is typically learning the process during the remodel. Expect delays. Plan for the worst and hope for the best!

In what order do you remodel a kitchen?

Check out our article, What Are The Steps In A Kitchen Remodel, where we outline the step-by-step process to get you your dream kitchen.

How much does a kitchen remodel cost?

We’ve got the price breakdown and budgeting recommendations right here in our How Much Does A Kitchen Cost article.

How do I lower the cost of a kitchen remodel?

  • Pass on custom options: Cabinets take up almost 30 percent of the budget for these projects. Save with stock products rather than semi-custom or custom.

  • DIY where possible: See where you can do some of the installation and replacement yourself.

  • Remodel in stages: You can break up the projects and remodel in stages, so you only have to save for one thing at a time.

  • Only do necessary updates: You don't have to do everything. You can simply upgrade the materials and appliances that truly need updating.

Budgeting a Kitchen remodel by Size

It could cost as little as $5,000 to remodel a small kitchen and as much as $60,000+ to do a large renovation. The size of your space will play a significant role in how expensive your renovation gets. Below, see the typical spend for various sizes and the factors involved.

Remodel Contractor Labor Rates

Expect to pay $3,500 to $6,000 for installation alone. Professional labor typically factors into the total in a range from 15 to 25 percent. The NKBA suggests 17 percent as the median. This percentage will vary depending on the size of the space and the features you install. Hiring a kitchen remodeling contractor is the best way to get the most out of your project and budget.

What is the difference between stock and semi-custom?

STOCK cabinets are in-stock and ready to ship in 5-7 business days, allowing us to install in as little as 2 weeks. Styles, colors, and sizes are not customizable, but there are many standard options to choose from to fill most peoples desires! With Plywood boxes and soft close drawers, these quality cabinets will add beauty and value to your home for years to come.

These cabinets are built to order - for you! Semi-custom cabinets allow you to customize features to fit your own unique style. Whether it's custom paint, open shelving, accessories, or a gorgeous island, there are hundreds of styles, finish, and wood combinations for you to explore. Typical lead times are 4-6 weeks.

Why do I have to pay up front?

Creations requires payment up front for each portion of the project before scheduling. Also- Sales Tax is NOT applied when cabinets are purchased with installation. Once we receive the ETA for your cabinetry, we schedule the installation, countertop measure, and countertop installation at the same time to provide the most efficient lead times possible. Since the ETA is typically available within a few days of purchase, we have found that (paying as you go) can cause delays in scheduling and ultimately more stress on the customer, project coordinator, and countertop vendor who is being asked to “squeeze in” or “move up” install dates. Date’s for each service can be locked in as soon as payment is received.

What part of the kitchen remodel do you guys do?

Creations currently provides kitchen design, cabinet installation, and countertop installation services.

How long does it take for my cabinets to come in?

Typical lead time for Stock cabinetry is approximately 2 weeks and for our Semi-Custom brands 4-5 weeks. Lead times can extend during busier times of the year, typically during building season and before the Holidays, Spring and Fall.

Do you install tile backsplash?

At this time we do not subcontract tile installations. You can check with your designer to see if we have a preferred vendor partner referral we can refer to you!
